A fatal fire broke out at a HDB flat in Ang Mo Kio AVe 10 early this morning, causing one death and one injury. The mother and son were trapped in the burning flat for half an hour. When civil defense personnel saw the door and entered the house to save them, they found that their son lost consciousness and was trapped in the toilet, while the mother was unconscious in the bedroom but she stopped breathing and had no pulse when she was rescued.

The fire occurred today (March 5) at about 6:08 in the morning in a three-room flat on the 11th floor of Block 456, Ang Mo Kio Ave 10. The mother was a 48-year-old Chinese woman and the son was a 20-year-old serving his national service. They have lived here for more than 10 years.
Firefighters rescued the trapped son in the kitchen and toilet. The mother laid in the bedroom and lost consciousness. She had stopped breathing and had no pulse when she was rescued. The medical staff attempted to perform CPR on the spot for her, and they then were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.

The police confirmed that the two injured were unconscious when they were sent to the hospital. The 48-year-old woman died of her injuries. According to preliminary investigations, the police classified the case as an unnatural death, and the possibility of homicide has been ruled out.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room and blocked the escape route for the two mothers and children. When the civil defense personnel arrived, they found that the door of the unit was closed tightly, so they saw the door and entered the house.
The civil defense pointed out that there were many flammable items stocked in the living room of the unit, and the living room was flooded by the fire at that time. It is difficult for firefighters to move after entering the unit and must extinguish the fire in the debris pile.
According to the photos uploaded by the Civil Defense on Facebook, there are various large and small sundries in the living room of the fire scene, including cartons, clothes and various bottles and cans.
