48 Y.O USED FIN NUMBERS TO COLLECT 397 TEMASEK ISSUED MASKS, JAILED

48 y.o Chua Sah May was given seven months of jail today (17 Jan) for redeeming 397 Temasek face masks using the FIN numbers of foreign workers.

She was convicted for the offence of cheating.

Worked as a recruiter

Chua was working as a recruiter for two companies which she was outsourced to, namely Clariant Singapore and Archroma Singapore.

It was then where she decided to use FIN numbers of foreign employees under the registrar she had to claim more masks.

She carefully selected the FIN numbers of those workers whom she thought will be leaving Singapore or were unable to come into Singapore because of the pandemic.

Went to claim the masks

She went to Yio Chu Kang Community Club to claim 397 masks worth $3,176 on a whopping 397 occasions.

When she was there, she will key in the FIN numbers of the employees she selected previously to claim the masks.

Complaint lodged

Clariant South East Asia’s sales manager then lodged a report with the Police on 3 Oct 2020 as one of the employees had tried to go and claim his mask but was denied by the system with the reason being that he had already redeemed his.

Chua was then caught on CCTV footage trying to claim three masks on 27 Sep 2020.

She was subsequently arrested at her house where 454 masks were found by the Police and surrendered to them.

Penalties

The prosecutor in court said that the amount of masks she had redeemed could last her for 66 years, given that Temasek had said that a pair of masks may last up to two months.

For her offence of cheating, she could have received up to 10 years of jail term and fined.
