A 49-year-old driver of a Mercedes taxi crashed his vehicle into a shophouse pillar at Zion Road yesterday (15 October) and was arrested for suspected drink driving.
The incident happened at about 1.40am, with the driver sustaining minor injuries in the process but was not conveyed to the hospital.
Several witnesses who lived in the shophouse unit above spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that they were startled by the car crash.
They also reported seeing the airbag inside the taxi being inflated during the accident, and they were relieved that the second and third storeys of the shophouse where they live were unaffected.
The shops were also not affected by the crash and resumed business as usual as the taxi only crashed into the pillar, as renovation works on the building’s structures went on.
