
Following the arrests of several online peddlers, Singapore Customs officers swiftly mounted follow-up operations over two weeks from 9 to 23 Dec 2020 on their buyers, five people were arrested in connection to the purchase of duty unpaid cigarettes.
The 5 people arrested consisted of two Malaysians and three Chinese nationals and they were charged for possession of duty-unpaid cigarettes. A total of 38 cartons and 74 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized in these operations.

In a separate case, three Singaporeans were also arrested for obstruction of duty by attempting to assist one of the offenders to remove and hide duty-unpaid cigarettes in a car boot before Customs officers could conduct checks on the offender’s locker. Investigations are still on-going.
