5 S’poreans Arrested in CNB Raid: Over S$243K Cash, Watches & 1,284 Etomidate Vape Pods Seized

Five Singaporeans have been arrested in a sweeping anti-drug operation that led to the seizure of more than S$243,000 in cash, high-end timepieces, multiple vehicles and over a thousand vape pods suspected to contain controlled substances.

In a statement released by the Central Narcotics Bureau, officers confirmed that the coordinated raids took place across several locations islandwide. The suspects — four men and one woman — are all Singapore citizens and are currently assisting with investigations into alleged drug-related activities.

Authorities revealed that a substantial quantity of e-vaporiser products believed to be laced with etomidate were confiscated during the operation. Etomidate is a medical anaesthetic that has been increasingly misused in illicit vape products, raising serious public health and regulatory concerns in Singapore’s tightly controlled drug enforcement landscape.

Raids Conducted Across Multiple Locations

The first arrest occurred in Bedok North, where a 36-year-old man was apprehended following intelligence-led surveillance. Officers reportedly had to use necessary force after the suspect resisted arrest. Around 50 vape pods suspected to contain etomidate were seized from him.

On the same evening, a 29-year-old man was detained near the junction of Sembawang Road and Mandai Avenue. Subsequent checks led officers to a self-storage facility in Woodlands Close, where more than 1,000 additional vape pods were recovered. His vehicle was also impounded as part of asset seizure procedures commonly undertaken in drug trafficking investigations.

In a parallel enforcement action, CNB officers raided a residential unit in the Miltonia Close area. A 37-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested at the premises. During the search, officers uncovered 145 vape pods, nine e-vaporisers, S$243,451.35 in cash, small amounts of foreign currency, and several luxury watches believed to be linked to the alleged offences. Two vehicles registered to the male suspect were also seized.

Further Arrest and Legal Consequences

In the early hours of the following day, another raid was carried out at a unit in Woodlands Drive, resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old man. Five additional vape pods suspected to contain etomidate were found at the residence.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities seek to establish the full extent of the network’s activities, including potential distribution channels and financial flows. Financial crime probes and asset tracing are typically conducted in tandem with drug investigations to disrupt illicit revenue streams.

Under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act, individuals found guilty of importing etomidate face a mandatory minimum jail term of three years and caning. Sentences may extend up to 20 years’ imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane, depending on the severity of the offence. Those convicted of selling or distributing the substance face between two and 10 years behind bars, along with corporal punishment.

The latest crackdown underscores Singapore’s continued zero-tolerance stance towards drug offences, particularly as new synthetic substances emerge within the illegal vape market.
