Ms Wang, a single mother in her 30s, received a notification from Starhub that her phone bill for June had accumulated to $1,480.

It was all chalked up to in-app purchases.

She initially thought there was a billing error but then she traced her 5-year-old daughter’s app record and found over 200 items of in-app purchases, with each item priced between $5-$8.

Wang claims that her daughter didn’t have access to the password or authentication code, and that the iPad didn’t even have a sim card.

The tablet’s only function was to connect to WiFi, but the purchases were still made anyway.

Wang’s daughter still doesn’t understand h ow much she’s spent on the mobile game, sharing that she just pressed it casually to “buy pets and decorate the house”.
