50 FIREFIGHTERS FIGHT HUGE FIRE AT CHOA CHU KANG, SIZE OF FOOTBALL FIELD

According to an SCDF media release, a fire broke out at around 1.30 AM at 131 Lorong Semangka, Choa Chu Kang Area.

The fire is a pile of waste material that is pile up to almost four storey high.

Here is what their Facebook post says:

At 1.30am this morning, SCDF was alerted to a fire at No. 131 Lorong Semangka. The fire involved piles of horticultural wastes, approximately the size of one football field and about four storeys high.

The firefighting operations is still ongoing due to the slow burning of the deep-seated piles, coupled with the abundance of dry vegetation and windy condition.

A total of 6 emergency vehicles and 50 firefighters have been deployed. Currently, 5 water jets are being used to bring the fire under control.

In addition, fire breaks, physical gaps between materials that could burn, are created using the company’s excavators so as to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.

This is expected to be a prolonged firefighting operations.
