An Unexpected Turn of Events at Wild Wild Wet

On August 21st, Li, a 50-year-old woman, visited the popular water theme park, Wild Wild Wet, located at Downtown East, with her family.

The family was excited to enjoy a day of aquatic adventures. However, what was supposed to be a joyous day quickly turned into a distressing experience.

The Slide That Led to a Fracture

The water slide in question, named “Slide Up,” is a four-storey ramp slide designed in the shape of a half-pipe. This ride allows up to two riders to sit on a float that is released from the top of the water slide. Unfortunately, Li’s experience on this ride took a painful turn.

Li’s ordeal began when she decided to take the “Slide Up” ride for the second time of the day, this time accompanied by her son. The first ride had gone smoothly, but the second ride resulted in a jarring incident. Upon reaching the bottom of the slide, Li experienced an intense pain shooting through her back.

The pain was so severe that Li shouted out in agony. Despite her cries, the float continued to slide back and forth on the half-pipe before she could finally disembark. The pain was excruciating, making it difficult for Li to stand on her own. She needed her son’s support to walk.

From Discomfort to Hospitalization

Initially considering the injury to be minor, Li attempted to alleviate the pain by taking a more leisurely ride on the Lazy River. However, her pain escalated to the point of tears. A vigilant lifeguard noticed her distress and called for a medic’s assistance.

The medic provided pain-relieving spray and called for an ambulance. At the hospital, it became clear that Li’s injury was more serious than initially thought. She had sustained a fracture to her tailbone, also known as the coccyx.

Seeking Answers and Accountability

The fracture brought on sleepless nights due to the persistent pain. Li’s sleep was disrupted, and the discomfort affected her daily routine. To find relief, she turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments like acupuncture alongside prescribed painkillers.

Li’s situation raises concerns not only for her well-being but also for the safety measures in place at Wild Wild Wet. She expressed her hope that the park’s management would conduct a thorough investigation to determine how the incident occurred on her second ride, especially considering her uneventful first ride.

Park’s Response and Safety Measures

Wild Wild Wet responded to the incident by confirming their awareness and assistance to the affected customer. They highlighted their commitment to safety by mentioning the presence of safety rules, regulations, and advisory notices at the park.

In response to the incident, the park’s management is conducting internal investigations, and a third-party assessment is also in progress.
