$5,000 SURCHARGE TO BE ADDED FOR PURCHASING POLLUTIVE CARS, STARTING NEXT YEAR

In the effect to reduce car pollution in Singapore, an additional surcharge of $5,000 will be added to discourage residents from purchasing pollutive cars. The same goes for pollutive taxis as well with $7,500 surcharge added on.

Similarly, for those who purchase a cleaner car will receive an additional rebate of $5,000. Additional $7,500 rebate will also be given to those who purchase cleaner taxi as well. This surcharge and rebate will start to kick in starting from next year.

The new measures will come under the Vehicular Emission Scheme (VES) which was first introduced back in 2018. The aim of this scheme is to reduce the carbon emissions of Singapore’s road.

Cars are categorised based on emissions across 5 pollutants and category rebate and surcharge are calibrated accordingly.
