A 51-year-old woman was taken to hospital after she was suspected of falling from the fourth floor of an HDB block in Holland Drive and landing on the eaves of a first-floor unit.
The incident reportedly happened at Block 43 Holland Drive at around 7.45am on 19 August 2026, according to reports by Lianhe Zaobao. The incident prompted a response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), with several officers deployed to rescue the woman.
Footage from the scene showed police officers cordoning off the area around the HDB block while SCDF personnel worked on the first-floor eaves. The woman was found lying on a stretcher and was reportedly unconscious when she was rescued.
SCDF Officers Carried Stretcher Through Window
Several SCDF officers could be seen standing on the first-floor eaves as they attended to the woman. Other officers were positioned near the kitchen window of a second-floor flat, apparently preparing to assist with the rescue.
The rescuers subsequently lifted the stretcher through the second-floor window and into the flat. They then climbed through the window themselves while carrying the stretcher, allowing the woman to be moved safely from the eaves.
SCDF later confirmed that an unconscious person had been conveyed to the National University Hospital (NUH) for medical treatment. Her condition was not publicly disclosed at the time of reporting.
Police Confirm Woman Apprehended Under Mental Health Act
Police also confirmed that a woman had been apprehended under Section 7 of Singapore’s Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008.
The provision allows authorities to take action when a person is believed to require care or treatment under the mental health legislation. This means the police action should not necessarily be interpreted as an arrest for a criminal offence.
A witness who spoke to Lianhe Zaobao reportedly said a female neighbour had previously noticed the woman shouting at her for no apparent reason.
The witness also observed that a fourth-floor window appeared to be open and believed this could have been the point from which the woman fell. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been fully established publicly.
The incident has since prompted concern among residents and members of the public, with some online commenters expressing hope that the woman will recover from her injuries.
Authorities have not released further details about what led to the incident, and investigations into the circumstances are understood to be ongoing.
