
On 8 February 2021, a man was slapped with a S$7,000 fine and a 2 weeks jail term for promoting racism a month before the 2020 General Election.
The man last year during June 2020 had sent some images through WhatsApp to others regarding false information about the racial ratio just a month before the GE elections 2020.
In his post, he added, “It seems the PAP (People’s Action Party) wants to make the Malay community a sub-minority. But the Malays were the original residents of Singapore… By adding more new China, Indian, Filipino (and) others to, just dilute the original race of malay?”. Adding that Singapore brought in foreigners to dilute the existing numbers.
Deputy Public Prosecutor said that this man had an intention to create conflict among races making the citizen of Singapore get confused about the PAP’s actions.
On Monday, the man pleaded guilty to ill-will promoting between racial groups and also, saying words to cause conflict between racial groups.
Prosecutors have also mention that this case was the first of its kind in Singapore.
