The dead body of a 57-year-old man was discovered yesterday morning (8 September) on the clothes drying rack of a HDB building at Block 38 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh, according to Shin Min Daily News.
SCDF (Singapore Civil Defence Force) officers were seen working diligently to free the man from the rack before using a white sheet to cover up his dead body.
The presence of undertakers further added to the grim scene, as they ferried the man’s lifeless body away from a pool of blood.
Witness Accounts
As news of the incident spread, witnesses in the vicinity came forward with their accounts. According to reports, the deceased man resided on the 11th floor of the building.
A helper living on the 10th floor told SMDN that she recalled hearing a man’s distressing cries followed by a loud thud at approximately 9 a.m. This unsettling sequence of sounds prompted her to investigate further.
Another witness, Mr. Chen, a 74-year-old resident, also spoke to SMDN and described his shock at the unfolding events.
He mentioned that he noticed a heightened police presence on the ground floor and decided to look out of his window. To his horror, he saw a shirtless man on the clothes rack, hanging lifelessly.
The Tragic Outcome
Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. The police are not suspecting any foul play according to their preliminary investigations, and police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are currently underway.
