The National Parks Board (NPB) has said that it has received a report of alleged illegal breeding and selling of cats on 6 Jan.
Authorities then seized 29 cats from the home of a 58 year old woman, who is suspected to be an illegal backyard breeder.
She is now being investigated.
Of the 29 cats, 14 are female, 10 are male and five are kittens.
Amongst them are a cat who is pregnant and another who is currently nursing its kittens and they were taken to a vet to be kept under observation.
The rest are under the care of the AVS at the moment, and are assessed to be well.
Penalties
NParks urged the public who are intending to become pet owners to only get their pets from licensed shops, as buying them from unlicensed breeders may pose a danger due to the unknown health status of the pets.
The penalties for keeping animals in captivity for sale without a license under the Animals and Birds Act are a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment of up to six months.
The penalties for using premises as a farm without a license are a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to a year.
