6 KIND SAMARITANS AWARDED BY SCDF FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN BEDOK NORTH FIRE

Six kind samaritans were awarded by the SCDF for their efforts in helping alerting the authorities, evacuating an elderly to safety and guiding resident to refuge, during the Bedok North fire.

[Public-Spiritedness of Six Good Samaritans during a fire on 13 May 2022]

On 13 May 2022 at about 6.35am, SCDF was alerted to a fire at Block 409 Bedok North Avenue 2. During this incident, Mr Cheng Ping Chen, Mr Cheng Ping Peng, Ms Goh Yun Yi, Mr Neo Jia Wei, Mr Willie Toh Hock Beng and Mr Chiong Kai Weng swiftly stepped forward to assist in evacuation efforts.

Upon seeing black smoke from the affected unit, the six Good Samaritans alerted SCDF and neighbouring residents from the affected block, evacuated an elderly person to safety and guided affected residents to Heartbeat@Bedok for refuge.

On 22 May 2022, these Good Samaritans were awarded the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award for their commendable efforts and public-spiritedness. The awards were presented by Mr Tan Kiat How, Advisor to East Coast GRC Grassroots Organisations. The event was also graced by Mr John Wu, Vice-Chairman for the National Fire And Emergency Preparedness Council – NFEC.
