
A 61 year old man who is a repeat sex offender was convicted on Friday, (13 August 2021) for attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child.
He was given 14 months jail and another 171 days enhanced jail term for reoffending while on remission order from his earlier conviction.
He cannot be named due to a court order to protect the identity of the victim, female and is a 11 year old minor.
The girl’s mother had lodged a police report and his doings were eventually discovered.
Investigations revealed that he had about three bottles of beer before the offence.
What he did
He entered the home of the girl when she was alone under the guise of reading her fortune.
He also told her that he is not a “dirty old man”.
He took a look at the girl’s palms and told her that she had a bright future and then ask her if her tummy hurt.
When the girl replied no, he asked her to remover her pants so that he could blow her genitalia areas for five times to relieve the pain.
He left after the girl refused to.
His past offences
The man was convicted of nine sexual offences in the past between 1985 and 2019 where he was charged with 11 counts of outrage of modesty and two for insulting a woman’s modesty.
He received sentences involving caning, fine, jail and preventive detention.
He always uses similar modus operandi such as offering to read fortune or praying, before proceeding with his crime.
He apologised during mitigation and sought for forgiveness.
He could have been jailed up to seven years, fined $10,000 or both for his offence of attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child.
