63 Y.O UNCLE ARRESTED FOR LOANSHARK HARASSMENT, “THIS TIME YOU REMEMBER MY NAME”

Singaporean authorities have taken a significant step in curbing loan shark harassment by apprehending a 63-year-old man suspected of involvement in such activities.

The arrest comes after a recent incident of loanshark harassment was reported along Upper Boon Keng Road, involving the defacement of a residential unit with red paint and the placement of a debtor’s note at the property’s gate.

On August 3, 2023, the Singapore Police Force received a report about the loanshark harassment incident, prompting a swift response from law enforcement agencies. The authorities immediately initiated follow-up investigations, leveraging images captured by police cameras to aid in identifying the individual responsible for the act.

The joint efforts of officers from the Bedok and Jurong Police Divisions culminated in the successful identification of the suspect. Subsequently, on August 4, 2023, the 63-year-old man was taken into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that he may have been involved in similar cases of loanshark harassment across the island.

During the arrest, the police seized a mobile phone believed to be linked to the case as evidence. The suspect is currently under investigation as law enforcement officials work to uncover further details about his alleged involvement in loan shark harassment activities.

The suspect is set to face legal proceedings, with a court date scheduled for August 5, 2023. The charges brought against him fall under the provisions of the Moneylenders Act 2008.

The Police have arrested a 63-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 3 August 2023, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment along Upper Boon Keng Road where a residential unit was splashed with red paint, and a debtor’s note was placed at the gate.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 4 August 2023. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment islandwide. One mobile phone was seized as a case exhibit.

The man will be charged in court on 5 August 2023 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be jailed, fined and caned.
