Law enforcement officials have taken a 64-year-old woman into custody for her alleged role in a loanshark harassment incident.
On October 13, 2024, at approximately 9:55 PM, police received a report regarding loanshark harassment occurring at a residential property on Woodlands Street 81. It was reported that the woman had handed a debtor’s note to the resident of the unit.
Responding promptly to the situation, officers from the Woodlands Police Division arrived at the scene and successfully apprehended the suspect. They also confiscated the debtor’s note as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The woman is scheduled to face charges in court on October 15, 2024, under the provisions of the Moneylenders Act 2008. For individuals convicted of loanshark harassment for the first time, the penalties can be severe, including fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, a potential prison sentence of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
