The Singapore Police Force said officers were alerted at around 11.20pm on 13 August after a motorcycle parked along Lorong 30 Geylang was reported stolen. The circumstances surrounding the alleged theft were not disclosed.

Officers from Bedok Police Division subsequently carried out follow-up investigations and used images from police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage to establish the identity of the suspected offender. The man was arrested within six hours of the police report being made.

Stolen Motorcycle Recovered

Police said the motorcycle was also recovered following the investigation. The case highlights the role of surveillance footage and police camera networks in helping officers identify suspects in property-related offences.

The suspect is facing a charge of theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, the offence carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.

The police did not provide further details about the motorcycle, including its make, model or estimated value. It was also not stated whether the suspect was known to the motorcycle’s owner.

Police Remind Motorcycle Owners To Take Precautions

Following the arrest, the police reminded motorcycle owners to take steps to reduce the risk of theft. Owners are advised to park their motorcycles in well-lit locations whenever possible, particularly when leaving them unattended for extended periods.

Motorcyclists are also encouraged to install anti-theft alarms and ensure that such devices are properly maintained. Police further reminded owners to remove their ignition keys and secure their motorcycles whenever they are left unattended.

Another precaution is to avoid keeping spare keys or transponders inside motorcycle storage compartments. Leaving such items with the vehicle could potentially make it easier for an offender to gain access or operate the motorcycle.

The case comes as a reminder that motorcycle owners should take basic security precautions even when parking in familiar areas. Using additional anti-theft measures, choosing safer parking locations and ensuring keys are kept securely can help reduce the likelihood of vehicle theft.
