In the quiet neighborhood of Block 457 Jurong West Street 41, a tragic incident unfolded on the night of December 7. A 69-year-old male rider on a Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) collided with a motorcycle before later dying of his injuries, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The Incident Details
The unfortunate incident occurred at approximately 8:35 pm, near Block 457 Jurong West Street 41, leaving an elderly man unconscious and in need of immediate medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene, with parts of the PMA scattered along the road, indicating a significant impact. Paramedics swiftly arrived, attempting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the elderly man.
The elderly PMA rider, later identified as the 69-year-old, faced severe injuries, ultimately leading to his passing. In contrast, a 27-year-old male motorcyclist, though conscious, suffered leg and neck injuries.
Insights from Eyewitness
Mr. Xie, an eyewitness, shared his account of the incident. According to him, the collision resulted in the PMA’s seat and wheels detaching, indicating a forceful impact. Speculating that the PMA rider was crossing the road when the collision occurred, Xie said that the impact was so grate that the PMA’s seat and wheels came off.
Amidst the chaos, passers-by played a crucial role in managing the situation. They directed traffic, aiding emergency responders and ensuring the safety of others.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed the accident and said that it happened on 7 December at about 8.35pm.
The deceased was initially conveyed to the hospital unconscious, where he later died from his injuries; whereas the motorcyclist was sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital conscious.
Police investigations into the accident are currently ongoing.
