7 FT FINED FOR BREACHING CB MEASURES @ ROBERTSON QUAY

According to a media release, 6 men and 1 woman were fined on 25 Jun 2020 for breaching the circuit breaker measures in regards to the Robertson Quay incident last month.

Each individual had pleaded guilty one count of circuit breaker charge by meeting someone who is outside of their household for a “drinking and chatting” session.

4 out of the 7 individuals were fined S$9,000 while the remaining 3 were fined S$8,000 respectively. All 7 of them were represented by lawyers during the court hearing.

According to the media release, both groups of people did not meet each other intentionally. They have met each other by chance at the same area on the 16 May 2020 and only then they each had decided to have a drink and a chat. The duration of the meeting for these 2 groups of people were under an hour.

Court Hearing

During the court hearing, the prosecutor has urged the court to sentence the group of 4 men to a 1-week jail term as the nature of their meeting was essentially a “Pub Crawl”. As for the 3 who stayed at the same spot to be fined for S$9,000.

However, the defendant lawyer fought that their client meeting was by chance and unplanned. (LOL)

According to the law, anyone convicted for breaching the circuit breaker rules could be jailed up to 6 months and fined up to S$10,000. For repeated offenders, they could be jailed up to 12 months and fined up to S$20,000.
