70 Y.O CABBY JAILED FOR CAUSING DEATH OF 63 Y.O PEDESTRIAN

A 70-year-old cabby was sentenced to 2 months of jail for causing the death of a 63-year-old pedestrian.

The cabby pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by rash driving. He was also disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for a period of six years.

The incident happened on the 04 of Apr 2019 at a junction between Woodlands Avenue 1 and Woodlands Avenue 2 at around 7.30 pm. The victim was crossing the road when the cabby hit him while trying to turn right.

The victim was in the right of way as he started crossing when the pedestrian traffic signal was showing a green man. When the victim was hit, the traffic signal was a blinking green man. After being hit the victim was unable to get up and the cabby alighted to assist him to the side of the road before driving away.

The victim was only brought to the doctor after he reached home. He was immediately rushed to the hospital after the doctor examined his injuries at a clinic. Unfortunately, the victim died from head injuries 16 days later.

According to the law, the cabby could be jailed for up to 5 years and fined for his offence of causing death by rash driving.
