The security guard had witnessed an altercation between the resident and a taxi driver outside the guardhouse of the condominium.

USE said that the incident happened during the early hours of 14 April last week – the security officer had witnessed the altercation, and the resident then approached him aggressively and shouted at him.

The resident then went on to assault the security officer repeatedly and left him injured and bleeding, resulting in a huge gash on the security officer’s head.

The injured security guard is currently on medical leave and his medical expenses are being taken care of by his security company.

The USE’s general secretary, Raymond Chin; as well as their mediation services supervisor, Murugason, also visited the stricken security guard at his home on 19 April, as well as presenting him with some quick relief vouchers.

They have also helped the security officer to lodge a police report about the incident.

The USE also highlighted how this latest incident is the third case of their security guards being mistreated within the month of April alone, and said that their security officers are merely just trying to do their jobs and performing the duties that were given to them.

They added that they stand firmly behind their officers and will work closely with the authorities to make sure such incidents are attended to, as well as giving their officers the fullest support.

Persons found guilty of intentionally causing harassment, alarm or distress to security officers, under the Private Security Industry Act which was enhanced in May 2022, face a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 12 months.
