A 77-year-old woman was allegedly dragged for more than 1.5km by a minibus after being hit in Jurong West, before her body was later discovered along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).
The incident came to light after the woman was found along the PIE towards Changi at around 7.10am on 16 October. A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic pronounced her dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) subsequently established that the woman had earlier been involved in a hit-and-run accident at the junction of Jurong West Street 61 and Jurong West Avenue 4, more than 2km from where she was found.
Woman Allegedly Dragged More Than 1.5km
According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, the elderly woman had reportedly ended up underneath the minibus after the collision and was dragged along the road for more than 1.5km.
It remains unclear whether the driver realised that the woman had become trapped beneath the vehicle or was aware of what had happened while continuing to drive. The available information has not established what the driver knew at the time or the circumstances surrounding the alleged dragging.
The distance between the reported collision site in Jurong West and where the woman was eventually found along the PIE has raised further questions about the sequence of events leading to her death.
66-Year-Old Minibus Driver Arrested
Police had earlier arrested a 66-year-old minibus driver in connection with the case. According to previous reports, he had left the scene before officers arrived.
He was subsequently arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death.
The police have not publicly established whether the driver knew that the woman was trapped beneath his vehicle or whether he was aware of the collision’s consequences while continuing his journey.
Investigations into the fatal incident are ongoing.
Authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision, including how the woman came to be trapped beneath the minibus and the events that followed.
