80 PEOPLE EVACUATED AFTER PRAYER ALTAR CAUGHT FIRE IN PUNGGOL PLAZA

The SCDF said that it was alerted to a fire in a unit on the first floor of Punggol Plaza on Sunday (September 6), leading to the evacuations of dozens of people from the mall.

The fire reportedly involved a wooden cupboard housing a prayer alter, according to the SCDF.

They said: “SCDF extinguished the fire using one water jet.”

They added that about 80 people were evacuated from the premises by security officers before the arrival of the SCDF.

One person was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at the time of writing.
