The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) released a statement on their Facebook earlier today, about a foiled attempt to smuggle about 400 e-vaporisers and 8,100 refill pods into Singapore through a Malaysia-registered lorry.
here is the statement:
𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 “𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁-𝗳𝘂𝗹” 𝘀𝗺𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁
On 22 January, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint foiled an attempt to smuggle 8,100 e-vaporiser refill pods and 400 e-vaporisers into Singapore via a Malaysia-registered lorry transporting chilled fruits.
The lorry was directed for further checks after our officers observed anomalies in the scanned images of the lorry. During their checks, officers uncovered the e-vaporiser pods and refills which were wrapped in aluminum foil and hidden in crates at the back of the lorry.
A Malaysian lorry driver and his attendant involved in the case were referred to Health Sciences Authority for further investigation.
Safeguarding Singapore’s borders is a top priority for ICA. Those with malicious intent could use similar methods of concealment to smuggle security items into Singapore. ICA will continue to stay vigilant and thwart any smuggling attempts through our borders.
