Sim Hwa, 93-years-old, hit his 85-year-old roommate with his walking stick multiple times in a dispute over room lighting.
The victim suffered fractured fingers and lacerations.
Sim pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to his roommate at a home for senior citizens and was sentenced to 6 months jail.
What happened?
The incident happened on 17 October 2020.
Sim entered his unit at around 11pm while his roommate was sleeping and turned the lights on.
His roommate told him that he wanted to sleep and turned the lights off.
The two then got into an argument, with Sim turning the lights on again while his roommate repeated his desire to sleep and turned the lights back off (again).
Sim then became violent and picked up his walking stick to hit his roommate, who was lying on the bed, repeatedly.
The roommate then fell onto the ground during the struggle, but Sim continued to beat him up on the ground.
A nurse then heard the victim crying for help and separated the two, effectively ending the assault, and she then called the ambulance.
Sim had hit the victim more than 10 times with his walking stick in total.
The victim was then sent to SGH and found with multiple abrasions and lacerations.
He was also revealed to have suffered fractures to his fingers, rendering him hospitalised for 10 days before being transferred to Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital for another 17 days.
His total medical bills cost $190.25.
