Health Minister, Ong Ye Kung, announced that monetary rewards of up to S$4,000 will be given to public healthcare workers to recognise them for their efforts in this pandemic.
The reward is also extended to those doing frontline work in community care organisations like nursing homes and dialysis centres.
Currently, there are about 100,000 staff in these organisations eligible for the reward.
The Ministry of Health (MOH), also said that these monetary rewards are recognition from the government for the efforts of the staff.
Every Public Health Preparedness Clinic will also receive a grant of S$10,000 for their contributions in this pandemic.
Minister Ong added that the monetary reward does not fully reflect the contributions of each of these healthcare workers and that it is not a motivating factor as to why the healthcare workers do what they do.
However, it is more of an appropriate thing to do for MOH to recognise the contributions of these healthcare workers in this trying year.
Public healthcare workers should expect to receive the reward in December this year while Public Health Preparedness Clinics and healthcare workers who are eligible for the reward should receive it in the first quarter of 2022.
