PRITAM SINGH: WP’S CEC VOTED FOR RAEESAH KHAN TO BE EXPELLED

The Workers’ Party (WP) said in a press conference earlier today that Raeesah Khan resigned before the party’s disciplinary panel could submit their recommendations to the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

WP chief Pritam Singh said that the CEC had voted for her to be expelled from the party if she didn’t resign from her position.

Making sure this doesn’t happen again

Singh said that there were the usual pre-parliamentary processes when asked about the checks in place to ensure the saga doesn’t happen again.

He added that Khan was told to substantiate her allegations about following a rape victim to the police station, but ignored the instruction.

He noted that the party’s leaders will take responsibility and account to the public because it’s their MP.

Singh also touched on the candidate selection process, saying that no selection process can eliminate the prospect of a candidate with certain traits that weren’t highlighted initially.

He did however add that the WP will do their best to lower this prospect the best that they can while working to ensure diversity.
