189 PEOPLE INVESTIGATED FOR LOAN SHARK OFFENCES, YOUNGEST ONLY 12 Y.O

The Singapore Police said in a statement on 7 December that they conducted raids against unlicensed money lending operations across Singapore between 22 November and 3 December.

A total of about 189 people between the ages of 12 and 78-years-old are being investigated for their alleged involvement in the loansharking activities.

16 of the suspects allegedly harassed victims at their homes, 37 are believed to have been runners helping the loansharks perform ATM money transfers.

135 of the suspects allegedly opened bank accounts and gave the loanshark their ATM cards and identification numbers.

One of the suspect also allegedly provided fake information to the loanshark, resulting in an innocent person who is not the suspect, being harassed.

At the time of writing, police investigations against the suspects are still ongoing.
