MAN WHO INSULTED POLICE OFFICER AFTER BEING ARRESTED, FINED $3.8K

Ooi Jia Jun, 31-years-old, pleaded guilty to one count of harassment and one count of behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place and was fined $3,800 on 23 December.

What happened?

On 20 October, Ooi was shouting and banging on a door on a ninth-floor HDB flat at Anchorvale Road at about 11pm.

Police officers then arrived at the scene and told him to calm down, to which Ooi refused to comply.

He was subsequently arrested and put inside a police car and he was then escorted to the Woodlands Police Divisional Headquarters by the officers.

Along the way, he used vulgarities on Station Inspection Nur Yusman Abdul Ghani as well as hurling racial insults.

For the offense of harassment, Ooi could have been jailed for up to a year and fined up to $5,000.
