The SCDF shared a post on Facebook about a few members of the public who were awarded the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award (CLA) for stepping forward to help during fire incidents.
HEre is the statment:
“On the afternoon of 4 Jan 2022, five members of public and an SBS Transit Ltd Bus Captain were recognised with the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award (CLA) for stepping forward during two separate fire incidents.
On 8 Oct 2021, Bus Captain Mr Mohd Azim Bin M Rosley was plying bus service 99 when he encountered a motorcycle on fire along Jalan Boon Lay. He stopped his bus safely at a bus stop nearby and took a fire extinguisher from his bus to fight the fire. Within minutes, he had swiftly extinguished the flames and resumed his bus route.
In another incident on 20 Oct 2021, a fire broke out in a 7th floor unit of Blk 470 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. Siblings, Mr Muhammad Rusyaidi Bin Abdul Rashid and Ms Intan Sabrina Binte Abdul Rashid were alerted to the fire and assisted to evacuate children from the affected unit before alerting all other residents on the same floor to evacuate. Ms Linda Lim Lay Kuan, Ms Cynthia Loh Bee Kheng and Mr Vincent Lau Chee Wah were alerted to the smoke from the affected unit and assisted with evacuation efforts of the affected block, as well as calling 995.
The award presentation was graced by Mr Murali Pillai, Member of Parliament for Bukit Batok SMC. The awards were presented by COL Goh Boon Han, Commander 4th SCDF Division.
