Mahathir Mohamad, the 96-year-old former Malaysian Prime Minster, was admitted to the hospital for the 3rd time in a little over a month’s time.
He was confirmed on 22 January to have been hospitalized and is currently in the cardiac care unit at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Malaysia, according to the Malay Mail.
However, no other information was disclosed.
Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the current Prime Minister of Malaysia, apparently rushed to the heart institute upon hearing the news that Mahathir was in critical condition.
But The Malaysian Insight reported that Mahathir was in stable condition, citing their sources.
Mahathir was first admitted to the IJN on 16 December for a full medical checkup and further observation.
He was subsequently discharged on 23 December 2021, before being admitted again for the second time for an “elective medical procedure” less than a month later.
According to the Malay Mail, Mahathir previously had his first heart attack in 1989 and two more subsequent ones in 2006.
