In an operation on January 28, 2022, Singapore Customs apprehended five men and one woman ages ranging from 30 to 52, and seized over 7,100 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
Operation in Jurong West
The operation took place last Friday (Jan 28) at Jurong West Street 62, customs officers who were on the scene saw two men moving boxes from a truck onto a van and one of the men drove off with the vehicle.
Moments later, A lorry arrived and parked beside the truck and more boxes were moved to the lorry.
The officers move in and found 4,336 cartons of contraband cigarettes, both of them were arrested.
The van which left earlier was headed towards Joo Chiat Lane, a man approach the van and the officers move in for the arrest.
A woman was found in the passenger seat of the man, all three were arrested.
2,850 cartons of cigarettes were found on the van.
In total Customs Officers seized 7,186 cartons of cigarettes, in total the evade tax amount is SGD$662,520.

One of the men and the woman were charged in court on 29 January 2022, and the court granted the application for them to be remanded for a week for further investigations.
For the remaining men, Investigations are ongoing.
