INDONESIA TIGHTENS COVID-19 CURBS AS INFECTIONS SURGE

Indonesia is tightening social restrictions in Bali, Jarkata in order to control the number of cases.

The country has seen a spike in cases, 36,000 cases were reported yesterday (Feb 6) which resulted in the hospitals getting filled up to 63%. The spike in cases resulted in the hospital occupancy increasing from 45% to 63% which was caused by the Omicron variant.

Previously the Indonesian government announced in a statement that they will be temporary banning foreign tourists from entering the country through Jakarta.

But the ministry has since updated and clarified that overseas tourist who has the proper paperwork and still enter the country via Jakarta and Bali Airports.

Singapore to Batam

This applies to those entering Indonesia via Bata and Tanjun Pinang.

Senior cabinet minister Luhut Pandjaitan said in a statement that there will be tighter restrictions in Jarkata and Bali, mall and restaurant operating capacity are to be reduced from 60% to 50%.

Indonesia officials believed that the cases will peak at end of February.
