Normally bail bonds are paid to ensure that an individual will return to court after leaving custody. Under normal circumstances, bail is forfeited if the accused does not return to court.

However, in this case, it was impossible to return to court as the accused was found dead hours before he was due for sentencing.

27-year-old Wong Zhun Siong was convicted of raping a drunk teen and molesting another woman, he was due for his sentencing on 3rd Feb 2022 but he did not turn up. The judge issued a warrant for his arrest but only in the later part of the day, it was known that he was already dead prior to his court schedule.

Wong Lit Wai, the father of the accused appeared in court and was told that the bail bond will not be forfeited.
