A teacher was caught on CCTV hitting a 1-year-old boy and pleaded guilty in court.
CNA reported that the court imposed a gag order on the defendant to protect the identity of the victim and the accused is only identified as a 55-year-old teacher.
The incident took place in December 2019 in a span of 30 mins, the 1-year-old boy was hit on his back at least 14 times, hitting the hands 8 times, covered the child’s head with a pillow and slamming the kid head down and slapping the child several times in a row.
In a span of30 mins the child was not only hit by the teacher but also handled roughly, with the child cry and the teacher showing no signs of stopping.
How the teacher was caught
According to the Straits Times, the victim’s mother noticed signs of injuries on her child and even before the teacher was confronted, the teacher texted the mother asking if the child has sensitive skin.
It is believed that the teacher did so to so-called “cover her tracks” of hitting the child.
The mother brought the child to the hospital and a bruise of 13cm by 8cm was found on the back of the child and the doctors diagnosed it as “non-accidental”. This led to the parents requesting for the footage of the CCTV and the crime came to light
A police report was eventually lodged and the woman is facing charge for ill-treating a child under the Children and Young Persons Act and the teacher pleaded guilty court yesterday (Feb 18).
The female teacher will be back in court on March 17 and she might be facing up to 4 years jail and fined a maximum of SGD$4,000.
