A couple of workers were painting a HDB block in Punggol when the cable on their gondola snapped and they were left stranded and hanging 16 floors above the ground, according to Shin Min Daily News.
One of the residents in the block then opened their unit’s windows to rescue the stranded workers, letting them in.
The incident happened at Block 176D Edgefield Plains in Punggol on 18 February at about 4pm, and a video of the incident was filmed by a 55-year-old woman who lives nearby.
The residents who rescued the workers by letting them in through their window are a middle-aged couple in their 50s.
Speaking to Shin Min, they said that they were in the living room at the time and the wife then heard a loud bang outside, and when she looked out, she saw a gondola.
She opened her window to take a closer look and saw it tilting steeply and the workers were going to fall off any moment, and she noticed one of the broken cables.
The couple then hurriedly opened their window and let the workers in.
