He shared that the figures for February 2022 showed that the unemployment rates are not back at the levels before the pandemic hit.

Here is what he said

I am pleased to report that figures for February 2022 show that unemployment rates are now back at pre-COVID levels.  Resident unemployment rate stood at 3.0%, on par with the quarterly average in 2018 and 2019.

Over the past two years, our employers and employees have shown great resilience. Employers are looking beyond conventional ‘plug-and-play’ options for hiring, and employees have been more open to new opportunities and learning new skills. With your efforts, Singapore’s economy will emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Government will continue to provide support for businesses and workers to succeed in their transformation journeys. Assistance for jobseekers is available through Workforce Singapore (WSG), NTUC’s Employment & Employability Institute, e2i, as well as our SGUnited Jobs and Skills placement partners. As announced at Budget 2022, we have also extended the SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme and the Jobs Growth Incentive to better support our mature and vulnerable workforce segments.

With the recent easing of border restrictions and safe management measures, I am optimistic that our labour market situation will hold steady in the coming months.
