A man tricked at least 34 girls between the ages of 11 and 18 into sending him indecent photos in exchange to become influencers.
25-year-old Adrian Tan June Jie even went as far as using the photos as leverage to force the girls to get physical with him or he would post them online.
Fake Persona
Straits Times reported that Tan used a fake online persona and pretended as a woman online, he would then start his search for young girls on social media. Upon finding a target he is interested in, he would find out their email addresses before sending them messages to offer the “influencer” job roles.
Sample of his email message templates:Â “If you want to earn $25-$50 per day, here’s your chance. Clothes will be mailed to you and all you have to do is just take photos of yourself in the outfit that will be mailed to you.”
If any of the victims contacted him, he would then move the conversation to LINE chat where he will continue tricking the girls into sending compromised photos of themselves.
After getting the photos he would ask the victims to perform physical acts on him, and threatens to upload the photos online if they refuse.
Penalty
Tan was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail after pleading guilty to 4 charges of procuring the commission of an indecent act by a child, 3 charges of cheating and 1 charge of criminal intimidation.
