ENGINEER FELL 7 STOREYS TO HER DEATH AT CAPITASPRING BUILDING

A 48-year-old female Singaporean engineer reportedly fell 7 storeys to her death while performing maintenance work at CapitaSpring, an office building, yesterday (8 April).

The deceased was working on the maintenance level that was above the 16th storey of the building, she then stepped on a false ceiling panel and it gave way, and she fell 30 metres and landed on the 9th floor, according to a MOM spokesperson.

The SCDF said that they received a call for help at about 10.55am, and paramedics then pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

MOM added that the deceased was a worker of Dragages Singapore, and the occupier of the site is Ascott International Management which is the co-owner and developer for CapitaSpring.

MOM is looking into the incident and Ascott has since been told to stop all access to the maintenance level.

They said: “As a general safety measure, fragile surfaces should be marked clearly and conspicuously to warn of the risk of falling from height.”

CapitaSpring expressed their sadness about the passing of an employee of their contactor and is extending assistance to the family.

They also added that they are cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigations and that they place the utmost importance on workplace safety.
