HK CUSTOMS FOUND 700 KG OF METH, THE LARGEST DRUG BUST IN HONG KONG

Hong Kong Customs reports on April 10 – Customs officers detected a case of methamphetamine in a cargo arriving from Mexico last month.

A total of 700 kilograms of methamphetamine with a market value of more than HK$400 million were seized. This is the largest methamphetamine case that Hong Kong Customs has uncovered since records began, and the third drug case involving over HK$100 million since 2002.

According to reports, the case involves the illegal act of a multinational drug trafficking group using large industrial equipment to hide drugs and remotely control logistics companies in Mainland and Hong Kong to smuggle drugs.

On March 18 this year, Hong Kong Customs passed a risk assessment and inspected a shipment of air cargo from Mexico to Hong Kong reported to be carrying transformers at the Hong Kong International Airport. About 447 kilograms of suspected liquid methamphetamine were seized in three large transformers.

After investigation and exchange of information with the Mainland Customs anti-smuggling department, Hong Kong Customs seized 10 industrial shock absorbers in a logistics warehouse in Sheung Shui, Hong Kong on March 24, and seized about 253 kilograms of suspected shock absorbers in the shock absorbers. Hong Kong Customs said two Hong Kong men, aged 43 and 44, were arrested in the case and the investigation was still ongoing.
