Ray of Hope, a charity in Singapore, has started a fundraiser to raise money for the widow of 24-year-old Foodpanda rider Jason Tan.

Tan was killed on 10 April while out delivering food and trying to fulfil an order incentive; he was trying to avoid a van that had abruptly switched lanes and crashed into another motorcyclist along Gambas Avenue.

The 36-year-old van driver was subsequently arrested by the police for careless driving causing death, and the police are in the midst of investigating the accident.

The deceased was about to become a father as his wife was 3-months pregnant, and was trying to fulfil an order incentive by completing 13 more orders.

At the time of writing, Ray of Hope’s fundraising campaign has since raised about $97,326.66 from 1,704 donors.

The charity said that they are hoping to raise $200,000 to support Tan’s widow, who is three months pregnant.

Members of the charity also spoke to the deceased’s brother, Jeremy Tan, who said that they will be receiving some insurance payout but they are unsure how much the payout will be.

Jason and his wife had gotten married earlier this year on 5 March and had planned to go on a cruise with Tan’s parents in June, which was supposed to be the newlyweds’ honeymoon.

Here is what Ray of Hope said on their fundraising campaign page

On April 10, Mr Jason Tan, 24, was out fulfilling food delivery orders on his motorcycle, when he met with an accident in Gambas Avenue. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind his wife, who is currently three months pregnant with their child. The couple were married on 5 March 2022.

Ray of Hope caseworkers have spoken to Jason’s brother, Jeremy. He has shared the family’s shock, grief and distress. He also told us that while there will be some insurance payout, the family is unsure of how much the amount will be.
