Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said in a Facebook post that one of the very special things about Singapore is our vibrant multiculturalism.
He then highlighted that for April, we’ve begun Ramadan, Qing Ming Festival, Good Friday (tomorrow) and the Tamil New Year.
Here is what he said on Facebook
One of the very special things about Singapore is our vibrant multiculturalism. This is reflected in the many diverse festivals and occasions commemorated by our various communities.
Just take this month of April. Our Muslim friends have begun the holy month of Ramadan, the Chinese community has just commemorated Qing Ming, and Christians will also observe Good Friday tomorrow.
Today also marks Puthandu, the Tamil New Year, and Vaisakhi, celebrated by the Sikhs. Other Indian communities, including the Telugus, Malayalees and Bengalis, are also celebrating their respective New Years this month.
Good to hear that the Indian Heritage Centre and LiSHA have organised activities, workshops, storytelling sessions and more in the lead up to the new year celebrations. There is also a month-long exhibition on how our Indian communities usher in the new year.
Wishing a happy and blessed new year to our Indian community!
