Malvin Tan Jian Hong, 35-years-old, pleaded guilty to possessing three explicit videos of children and was sentenced on 14 April to 4 weeks imprisonment.
He had joined several channels on Telegram that shared explicit videos in order to get the videos of children, some of which he downloaded onto his phone.
What happened?
Tan joined the aforementioned Telegram channels in December 2019 and while surfing the explicit channels, he found content with children in it and downloaded some of them onto his phone.
He also attempted to forward one of the videos to a friend, which showed a man having intercourse with a girl who appeared to be about 7 or 8 years old.
Tan was then arrested on 29 July 2020 at about 11.40pm, at a carpark at Marine Terrace.
His mobile phone was then seized and the authorities then found about 422 files of obscene videos, with three of them showing children.
Court documents did not disclose what were the events that led to his arrest.
