Edmund Tan, the owner of an eatery, Chong Qing Steamboat, along Liang Seah Street and the boss of the 41-year-old woman who was slashed in the knife attack outside his shop, shared his account of the infamous attack.
Speaking during a Facebook live stream, Tan said that the victim was his worker; and that although he doesn’t know who the attacker was, he believes him to be the victim’s husband.
He said that his workers were caught by surprise by the suddenness of the attack and that when he had just arrived in his car, he was wondering why there was a man armed with a chopper going crazy.
He said that he was there before the arrival of the police, and that he didn’t know what to do.
He reflected on how he saw the attacker using the chopper to cut himself, before the police tased and arrested him, adding that the guy was out of his mind.
He shared that he talked to his worker before she went up the ambulance and asked her to stay strong, and hoped she is okay.
Tan’s daughter, Seymour, appeared on the live stream and said that she was very scared, as she started crying.
She said that the victim was someone she affectionately calls “da jie (or big sister in Mandarin)”.
Tan said that he is thankful to all of his neighbors who stepped forward to throw chairs and whatever they could find at the attacker.
He said that luckily everyone was brave and not scared cats, and helped to stop the attack from getting worse.
