He is said to be the husband of the 41-year-old woman, and the separated couple reportedly have 2 children together.

Chain of events

  • According to Straits Times, the owner of Samurai BBQ at Liang Seah Street, Mr Leonard Shi, was at the back of his restaurant smoking when he heard a metallic sound, followed by a woman screaming in pain.
  • He then proceeded through the alley to the back of Chong Qing Steamboat restaurant, which is about 50 metres away, and sees a woman bleeding on the ground.
  • A man who was wielding a sharp object was seen confronting the woman, before dropping it and entering the steamboat restaurant.
  • The woman then got up and fled to Liang Seah Street, while continuing to bleed profusely.
  • The woman then sat down behind a car on a kerb and appeared to be in a daze, with the workers nearby realizing that something bad had happened.
  • The attacker then walks up to the woman and slashes away at her.
  • Mr Shi and some restaurant workers then shouted at the man and picked up rubbish bins, plastic chairs, ladders, metal signs, basically whatever they could get their hands on, and threw them at the man.
  • About 10 to 15 workers were involved in defending the woman and trying to get the attacker away from the victim, including two air-con technicians.
  • The attack on the woman was stopped and the attacker then fled to Beach Road.
  • The injured woman then enters the lift lobby at Hotel Calmo Bugis to hide from the attacker.
  • The man, still armed with a chopper, prowls Liang Seah Street, appearing to be looking for the woman, as the workers continue to confront him and throw things at him.
  • The attacker couldn’t find the victim so he returned to the alley behind Zhong Hua Steamboat and starts to use the chopper to cut his own wrists, as well as appeared to cut his own neck.
  • The workers continued their confrontation with the man as he entered Chong Qing Steamboat through a backdoor.
  • Police officers then confronted the attacker at the entrance of the restaurant with their tasers drawn and warned him to drop his weapon, as the workers shouted at him to comply.
  • The police officers then fired a taser at the man, who then fell to the ground, before the police swooped in and arrested him.
  • The injured woman was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and about 15 minutes later, the attacker was conveyed to the same hospital via an ambulance.
  • The Singapore Police Force then released a statement on the incident:

The Police have arrested a 46-year-old man for his suspected involvement in the attempted murder of a 41-year-old woman, who is believed to be his wife.
