MAN ALLEGEDLY BLACKMAILED VICTIM WITH “COMPROMISING VIDEO”, WANTS $50K

A 24-year-old man was charged in court on 23 April with attempted extortion, for allegedly threatening to spread a video clip described as being “compromising” of the victim onto social media.

He had allegedly demanded a sum of $50,000 from the victim, with the police saying that they received a report on 19 April at about 5.25pm.

Officers from Clementi Police Division then established the alleged perpetrator’s identity and he was arrested with the aid of CCTV images.

A mobile phone was also seized by the authorities to be used an a case exhibit.

The penalty for extortion carries a jail term of up to 5 years with caning.
