A 39-year-old foreign worker was killed in a freak accident after being run over by a parked prime mover on a ramp.
The incident happened at Yishun Industrial Street 1 on 27 April at around 8am.
The deceased is a 39-year-old foreign worker from India, Shanmugam Jothi, who had parked the vehicle on a ramp along a driveway before alighting.
The prime mover then started to roll forward, and Jothi then ran towards the front of the vehicle and was run over by it, according to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Manpower.
The police were alerted to the fatal freak accident at about 8am and Jothi was found motionless, and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.
At the time of writing, investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing.
MOM further added that heavy vehicles should be parked on a firm and level ground, with the parking brakes fully engaged and the wheel chokes positioned properly.
A manager of Jothi’s employment company, City Container (S), said that Jothi was picking up cargo at the time of the accident, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The manager added that the company will be in touch with the worker’s family in India and providing assistance to them.
