WOMAN SCARED BABY HEAT-STROKE BECAUSE MOTHER-IN-LAW KEEPS OVERDRESSING HER

Hey everyone. I’m a little new to Singapore, my spouse (Singaporean) and I (Canadian) flew back to Singapore a while back to prepare for the birth of our baby (which happened in March).

So far we have been okay, however my Singaporean inlaws are constantly insistent on overdressing our baby.

Even when we tell them “No. That’s too much”, they will bundle her up in three extra layers the moment we turn our back. Meanwhile her onesie and swaddle are already soaked in her sweat.

I have no idea what to think about this. I know “heat death” is a thing with SIDS. I do know that babies need to be kept in a temperature around 22°C.

I also know what “cold” is, and I am confident that hypothermia is not a concern out here if you’re not under one of these glorious A/C units.

We do try to keep her appropriately dressed with the weather / room temperature, though we are beginning to doubt ourselves.

We’re just worried that our inlaws are going to bake our baby to death because they’d rather adhere to older traditions/practices instead of listening to the modern recommendations from the local pediatricians. How do you deal with your uncles and aunties?
