CNB OFFICER JAILED AFTER BEATING A MAN TO EXTORT CONFESSION

A civil servant is normally expected to perform at the highest moral standards but an unfortunate incident occurred between a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officer and a suspected drug offender.

Venkatesh Raj Nainar Nagarajan was suspended back in 2019 after he drank alcohol and beat a suspected drug offender to force a confession.

According to Straits Times, 34-year-old Sivabalan Kanniappan (Malaysian) got assaulted by Vegedesh.

Sivabalan was eventually found guilty of drug offences and jailed for 15 years and received 13 strokes of the rotan. (April 29)

Vegedesh was found guilty of 3 counts of voluntarily causing hurt and was sentenced to 5 years in jail.

Separate incident – Drinking Beer

In a separate incident, he was also fined $4,000 for hurling vulgarities at a Police officer.

Before work, Vegedfesh was drinking beer with his friends at a void deck in Sembawang on March 14, 2020, and got drunk, the Police approached Vegedesh and told them to leave the premise as they were not allowed to drink alcohol in the public as it passed the permissible time for drinking alcohol in public.

Instead of leaving, Vegedesh decided to hurl vulgarities at the officers leading to his arrest.
